David Lincoln Brooks –
CORIANDRE is a classic French scent that came out in 1973. It is of an olfactive family you just do not see much anymore: the classic Midcentury green aldehydic floral chypre, diametrically opposed to the sugar/fruity/vanillic scents that are in vogue today. Even at the EDP strength here, the scent is really quite restrained, never loud, and has a close-to-the-skin sillage. Unlike other classic green floral chypres (Think: MISS DIOR, BANDIT, YSL “Y”, AROMATICS ELIXIR, CRISTALLE, CABOTINE, KNOWING, etc.) CORIANDRE is more mellow and not nearly so sharp, bright and imperious. More “hippie chick” than “rich diva b****”. It kind of smells like the gentle, laid-back love child of AROMATICS ELIXIR and PALOMA PICASSO. A bright head of aldehydes, a green coriander, bergamot, angelica and lemon begins, giving an extremely clean, fresh feeling… not unlike a traditional “Kölnishe wasser”-type scent. The heart is mildly floral, with notes of spicy rose, lily/daffodil/narcissus and a chalky iris, with a slightly sweet nuance of ylang-ylang in her “green banana” guise. The base is of a woody sandalwood/benzoin, and a good old-fashioned foresty/mossy chypre base of patchouly, oakmoss galore, tonka and vetiver. It is not an especially girly scent, and men can easily wear CORIANDRE too. Gorgeous and refreshing, especially in warm weather.

I’ve worn this fragrance many decades ago and it still smells classy and classic. Absolutely love it! It’s clean, it’s crisp. Fresh. Not lemony. A bit masculine & feminine mix. Not sweet at all. Glad to rediscover this scent which never goes out of style….TWO THUMBS UP

I’ve used Coriandre for many, many years and still love the fragrance. It is not for a millennial or Gen Z or X for that matter; it’s for lady baby boomers who are bold and self-assured.
