Heater replaced an aging 60 gallon gas heater, natural gas prices having gone through the roof since Putin’s “special operation” in Ukraine. I was able to install it myself, but given the extensive electrical and plumbing work required, this is NOT a project to undertake unless you know exactly what you’re doing and why. Heater requires two separate 240 volt circuits, and operates without a negative.Not shown in the pic is some heavy-duty (4 AWG) copper wire which bonds the hot and cold water pipes together and connects to ground via the service panel — we have a 200-amp panel, but you may want to consult with an electrician to find out if your service panel is able to handle a tankless electric or will need to be replaced before installing the heater, because even a smaller heater like this one does draw a lot of juice. All in all, very pleased with this heater, which does exactly what Stiebel-Eltron promises. Had to buy the isolation valve assembly (directly under the heater) separately, but these heaters DO require ongoing maintenance, and the purpose of the isolation valves is to enable trouble-free flushing to get rid of scale, which left untreated in even moderately hard water areas will shorten the life of the heater. (Stiebel-Eltron has published a technical services bulletin on descaling.) Before deciding to buy, figure in the fact that if you can’t self-install, you’re going to have to pay a plumber AND an electrician to do it for you, which probably won’t come cheap. Good luck.

The water heater was very easy to install. It needs 3 40amp double pole breakers, so it takes up 6 slots in the breaker box. Also uses 8awg wire. After it is installed wrapped the hot water line in foam to eliminate some heat loss. Set the box to 125 degrees F and it comes out at about 120 deg F from the faucet. Over all glad to eliminate the old 80 gallon water heater it replaced. As for saving money, I guess it is about the same as the old water heater but get to take longer showers without the fear of the cold splash.

It seems to stay on well. The smell reminds me of going to the doctors office when I was a kid. The smell does die down after a while. Only just started using it, but so far so good.

At first it didn’t seem to work but then we realized there was still air in the system and as soon as it was purged the unit took off. I will let you know when we get this month’s electric bill but so far so good.

Our old valve went bad and was leaking from the showerhead with a constant drip. Instructions for replacement are clear, but if you aren’t handy, it might be a little complicated for you. Directions have pictures to help you visualize the removal and reinstall. Comes with the “puller” to remove the old valve. Very important to use the gel on the seals LIBERALLY and on both sides of the seals. If you aren’t handy it sometimes is helpful to take pictures of the parts as you remove them to help you remember sequencing. I suggest you read all instructions before you begin. One issue I had was that the valve was not in the correct on/off position when I installed it, so make sure you pay attention to that detail when installing and putting the handle back on. I had to go back and make an adjustment. Not a big deal… just frustrating. Works like a charm and smooth as can be. No more drips! INSTALL NOTE: if you want hotter water you can adjust that while you have the valve unit apart.

5 stars for the tool. It was great. 0 stars for the cartridge. I had to re-install the barely dripping OEM cartridge after attempting to use this cheap copy. It leaked very badly, and I have plenty of experience with this valve and cartridge.Please translate this to Mandarin and forward to the manufacturer: The rubber seals that sit on the hot and cold side of the cartridge are TOO DEEP. They protrude into the valve opening when ON, and get pinched by the valve opening when CLOSED. The net result is a water gap between the cartridge valve stem and the cartridge body–and a stream of water when OFF.

When my original cartridge failed, I went to the local hardware store and bought just the cartridge for 50% more than this combo. Amazone Prime still wouldn’t be fast enough. The cartridge, with just some pliers, came out with a lot of difficulty and the new one went in with equal difficulty. (Yes, I used the lube.) In fact, it leaked from the start. I bought this combo and lived with the leak until it arrived. The tool was definitely needed to remove old replacement cartridge. The rubber washers on the sides had deformed. This new on went it effortlessly and works great. Recommended.
