4711 by Muelhens Eau de Cologne Splash 6.8 oz

I looked in department stores for this cologne having used it overseas many years ago. I remembered it as having a light fresh scent and I could not find any women’s perfumes that could measure up except maybe Yardley’s English Lavender. So, I decided to look it up on Amazon since the website has been excellent at finding things I thought could never be bought. Found 4711 at a good price and ordered it. Although I am a woman, 4711 is touted as a “unisex cologne”. It is a nice scent for summer. Splash it on after a shower and it leaves you smelling like a fresh cake of soap.

I used to get this from my mother-in-law when she went to Germany. It is my favorite. And I did not realize how inexpensive it is. And it has some citronella in it. And that is great to keep away bugs. It’s the best cologne perfume there is and fragrant and Light. And men can use it or woman. And my husband loves it too.

I saw this at a plane toilet once and lived the way it smelled so took a photo and was happy to find it here. I put it in my bathroom

We usually buy this in Germany and its a fantastic scent. One of the original colognes from cologne Germany! Its very clean smelling. I don’t like most fragrances, this is not cheap or too strong.

I’m wondering if this is a copycat frangrance? Well, its not even close. Ordered this for my husband for Christmas because I learned of it back in the “70’s and loved it. It was a distinct fragrance not like most others. Let me say it smells like nothing more than alcohol? So disappointed!

Okay so I notice a lot of the poor reviews are due to the longevity of the cologne and I wanted to address that in my review. This cologne was invented in 1792 and keeps the same recipe and ingredients (which is why I purchased it). Back in the 18th century colognes and perfumes were not used like how they are today where you wear them to go to the club. They were made to prevent you from smelling bad and also as a status symbol. If you want a cologne that stands out the moment you walk into a room I recommend you go and buy a 170 dollar bottle of Versace Eros or Dior Sauvage. Those are “make a statement” fragrances. 4711 is a subtle “fresh citrus” smelling fragrance that isn’t overbearing. It makes you smell clean and fresh (that’s the best way I can put it). It’s not a statement maker, it’s not designed to set you apart, and it’s not designed to go clubbing. It’s designed to make you smell pleasant and not bad. I found the longevity to not be terrible. I applied some liberally on my skin and shirt and on the skin it lasted about 3-4 hours. On my shirt it lasted a LOT longer. If you want a lot more longevity I recommend splashing some on the collar of your shirt to last most of the day. However because this is a classic old cologne it is designed to work better when it mixes with your natural odor. I find it smells totally different on me than on my friends. On my friends it’s like buying a different cologne every time. However on clothes it smells the same consistently. So be warned if you splash it on clothes it will last longer but smell like it does out of bottle. All in all as a huge history nerd I love that I’m wearing a 300 year old cologne that was invented a year before Marie Antoinette passed on. As a guy I love that it makes me smell fresh and clean and well put together and doesn’t make a huge statement. It’s got great scent at a great price point and one bottle should last a good while. It gets a 9/10 for me.

Longevity is modest and preferred. Smells clean and is subtle after the invigorating splash. Hard to find new scents with these sensible qualities.

This sense is a smell that reminds you of childhood memories. It lasts a very long time. The quality of the bottle is amazing and gorgeous. You can use it for multiple purposes the uses are from cologne to using it to clean with. This is not something to be overlooked. High quality

This is just the way it was years ago. It hasn’t been adulterated in any way. Even the container is the same. A great product with a fantastic perfume.

Product was as expected. However when the product arrived it was obvious that the box had been ripped open during transport. Nothing was missing and the product was still in its original package. No explanation was given for the ripped open box.

The cologne is wonderful, my mother was raised in Bavaria and always used this cologne so it is a very special scent for me. I have not ever seen such a LARGE BOTTLE the scent is wonderful the value is a great bargain and I can freely use every day. I have actually bought four bottles of this that is how much I love this scent, every time I use this 4711 I am brought back to the beautiful mountains, sights and sounds of Bavaria.

I find the history of 4711 quite interesting; made since 1792, same formula, unisex, and Napoleon wore it (ha ha). These scent is enchanting. You get a good sized bottle for your money. The only drawback I see is I can’t smell it on myself very long, but I am going to see what kind of trick I can find to make the scent stay. In spite of that, I love it.

Clean fresh smell have been using this for years

My parents grew up in Germany. My dad was from Ludinghausen and my mom was from Ulm. Both of them used this product when growing up. Now I’m using it again since I found it here at Amazon. I even gave my daughter a bottle for Christmas. She said it reminded her of her Oma. Thank you for still making this unisex product. Plus it kinda wakes you up with it’s pleasant flowery smell. It’s like your standing in a meadow on the side of a mountain in southern Germany. I use it everyday for my body and face. When people ask me about it I tell them to look up 4711.

Not what was expected. In the 1970’s 4711 was an astounding fragrance. Ultimately fresh and clean.Being highly allergic to cigar & cigarettes – 4711 citrus was so perfectly strong that a busload of tourseniors……… smoking………. was tolerable w/a handkerchief dosed with 4711 citrus/a new bottle…………………… at my nose !!!!!!!! 5-17-24

First aware of 4711 while visiting Germany in 1963… we saw 4711 painted everywhere… were delighted to discover the wonderful fragrance and amazing history! Can’t live without it!

The large bottle offers a significant value by buying in volume and it was available. Other vendors were out, were more expensive and charged for shipping. The smell is refreshing and understated, therefore not overwhelming. It is a great splash!

My son wanted this cologne because he said Napoleon wore it that’s how long this cologne’s been out. He added it to his collection and he likes it. If there are women wondering how the smells because you want to buy it for your son or husband or guy, it does not smell bad so buy it

This has a top note spritz of lemon which backs off to a creamy kind of lanolin dry down. But layered underneath, you get just a whiff of lemon. I saw this when I was about 17 in a perfume boutique. It was a fun time in my life and getting this cologne today absolutely slapped me back there PDQ and had me grinning. Would I recommend this to a friend? You betcha. It’s light and clean, a little sweet and creamy and great for everyday wear. I got the small medallion bottle which easily slips into my purse, but since I’ll keep using this, I think I will get a spray for better application.
