I recently purchased the “Pure Pink” shade of this CHI Chroma Shine demi-permanent hair color, hoping that it would give me the right shade of pink I was looking for. I’m a very light blond (naturally) who has always wanted to throw a few pale pink chunks in my hair just for fun. Thanks to Pinterest, I finally got enough gumption to do it.But I am a professional licensed hairstylist who’s seen too many pink colors that don’t hit the mark. Many are too cherry or purple toned and I wanted a real cotton candy pink that would fade to a pastel pink. When I saw this product on the shelf at my beauty supply store I was excited to try it! With the see-through bottle, you can see the exact tone of the color–which means this would be ideal for those who aren’t professionals and don’t understand all the hairstylist code for colors.I took it home and tried it right away. This stuff, despite being a demi-permanent that doesn’t require developer, is powerful! I applied it to my hair without coloring it first and I ended up with exactly the right tone and the color took *very* well. I used paper strips to apply (to prevent bleeding color onto nearby hair I wanted to keep blonde) and left it on about 25 minutes. Though you should note, I’m a light blonde at a level 10 or 11 so it was easy to get bold color into my light hair–someone with darker hair might want to bleach before applying this in order to get the desired effect, you might want to ask a professional first if you are thinking of attempting this at home.As a professional, I’m very impressed with the quality of this product. These fun colors took very well to my hair, as well as a few friends I’ve done since, and resisted fade very well. It did fade over time, as all colors will, but it took longer than I’d expected. After a couple weeks I even touched up my hair and used professional color all over my hair, including the pink. The light blonde hair color (11A) didn’t even cause the pink to fade very much! Just slightly. I loved the pastel pink color I achieved after coloring it and a few shampoos lightened it up a bit. When I first used this, it was originally a bright, Barbie pink. I definitely am going for the pastel effect so when I color again soon I’m going to try a much shorter processing time–maybe 5-10 minutes. As for the bottle, it’s more than enough to color a typical full head of hair. 8 fluid ounces, and having used it three times I’m only half way through the bottle. It’s also great to say that this hair color is ammonia free, peroxide free (requiring no cream developer, which means it will not lighten your hair color at all but only deposit color), and paraphenylenediamine (PPD) free. So this is a great choice to those who are sensitive to regular hair colors or wishing to avoid harsh chemicals. As for the “demi-permanent”, that’s a hairstylist term meaning that it does not lift color from the hair (like bleach or permanent hair color typically does). Some tips on preserving your hair color are to use a color protecting shampoo, Pureology is my favorite, and to rinse hair with cool water, which will help seal the cuticle of each hair shaft and prevent damage. This is a fun line by CHI and I would definitely recommend these colors for those looking to try something new. These colors could possibly even be used in rinses or to give slight hues and tints to darker hair while still keeping a natural color. You can always ask your hairstylist to pick up this product for your next appointment, too. Sometimes it’s best to try these things with a professional. Feel free to comment with any questions, I’ll do my best to answer!

This color, unlike the red**(which will cover any hair known to mankind, and turns out fuchsia, BTW) doesn’t lay down much color at all/ and doesn’t hold.

It would be nice if it would include instructions. Fortunately I was able to find the instructions on the internet, but would have just been nice to have these in the package. I installed and the gauge still seems jumpy. Not sure if it’s a problem with the sensor or my adjustment. Still working on it. Will update if I figure it out.
